Mealtimes at the nursery

The Cottage Nursery has a ‘Healthy Eating Policy’ which we adhere to when preparing lunch meals, we would be happy to send you a copy on request.

The Cottage Nursery is a Nut-Free zone, so we ask parents not to send in anything with any nuts in, unfortunately this also includes chocolate spread as it may be ‘Nutella’!

We are very aware of food allergies and will accommodate any that we are notified of.  Our lunch menu lists all known allergens.

We employ a full time cook who prepares all our food fresh each day.  The last inspection of our kitchen by the Food Standards Agency was done on 16th November 2022 when we were awarded a Food Hygiene rating of 5 (very good) – the highest you can get!  In addition to our cook with 5 members of staff who all hold Food Safety & Hygiene level 2 qualifications.

Breakfast – For children who are booked in from 8.00 am we can provide a breakfast of cereals and toast, children must be at the nursery no later than 8.30 am for this meal.

Snacktime – The nursery provides a healthy snack during each morning and afternoon session, we offer various different fruits and toast, crackers, fruit loaf, pitta bread…

The children are offered either milk or water to drink.  Sometimes the children even get to make their own snack! There is no charge for these snacks.

3 week menu January – April 2025

All children who stay beyond 12pm will receive a home cooked meal followed by a healthy desert. This meal is charged at £2.90 a day.

Children in receipt of the 15 or 30 funded hours only, who attend beyond 12 o’clock, will still have the option of going home for lunch or they can join the lunch club from 12-12.30.  The charge for the lunch club is half an hour child care plus £2.90 for the meal.

If your child attends in our preschool room mornings only and you would like to extend the session to 1 pm to include the lunch club, we will offer spaces if we have availability throughout the nursery on an ad hoc basis.

If your child attends the nursery beyond 4.30, they will be provided with at light tea at no extra charge.
